Bank Holiday Monday 30th August - Chiddingstone Castle's Japanese Festival
"An extra special, action packed day to suit the entire family! To further spread the word of our exciting and unique collection of Japanese artefacts and ancient armour, we are thrilled to be welcoming Mr Nakagawa, who is visiting from Japan - especially for our Japanese Festival Day. Mr Nakagawa will demonstrate the art of Tameshigiri (the samurai art of cutting with a sword) and also perform the traditional Tea Ceremony, to display the samurai's artistic and gentle side. The day will also include Taiko Drumming demonstrations and workshops (for 8yrs+), a display of ancient Bonsai trees and lots, lots more! Not to be missed!"

THE MEMBERSHIP YEAR RUNS FROM 2ND DECEMBER TO 2ND DECEMBER (AGM) AND IS THEREFORE DUE NOW FOR 2010. ALL MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS SHOULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY A NEW APPLICATION FORM AND BE COMPLETED BEFORE APRIL 1ST TO ENSURE UNINTERRUPTED ACCESS TO THE FORUM. ANY CHANGE TO YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AT ANY TIME SHOULD BE NOTIFIED TO THE SECRETARY IMMEDIATELY OR NEWSLETTER/ MEMBERS FORUM ACCESS WILL BE AFFECTED.
Newsletter 5 of 2009 is being prepared now. This will be the last to be fully printed for all members by the society and will simultaneously be posted on the website. From this issue onwards all members supplying an email address with their renewal for 2009 will, in future, access PDF printable newsletters through the website Forum with the following publication targets, issues 1-4: April 10th, July 10th, Oct 10th, January 10th.
Members submitting articles for the newsletter should note that their articles should be sent to the Secretary well in advance of these dates. Articles should be compiled as Microsoft Word Documents (Windows 97-2003 Compatibility version) in Calibri 11 point font. PLEASE NOTE THAT IMAGES USED SHOULD BE FREE OF COPYRIGHT OR THEY CANNOT BE USED.

As from April 2009 our new venue is the Salmon Room of the Lass O’ Gowrie Hotel in 36 Charles Street, off Oxford Street, Manchester M1 7DB. On road parking is free after 6 pm and there is a Euro Car Park nearby. It is within five minutes walk of Oxford Road Rail Station.

Newsletters from 2004/2005/2006 are now available for download in the forum. I have now converted these documents to PDF 5 format as some users had problems with the newer format. It should now open on all versions of Adobe reader.
